Tree service for San Carlos Park, Iona and McGregor — pine-shaded small lots and the surge-hit shore toward the beach

Between Fort Myers and the islands, the unincorporated neighborhoods along US-41, Summerlin and McGregor are 1960s–80s ranches under the slash pines that were left standing — and Iona and Island Park sat squarely in Ian's surge.

South and west of Fort Myers, the county's unincorporated neighborhoods fill the land between the city and the water: San Carlos Park and Three Oaks off US-41 and Alico Road toward FGCU, Island Park and the Estero Bay shore, Iona and the McGregor corridor out toward Punta Rassa and the Sanibel causeway, and the older streets off Summerlin and Gladiolus. The housing is mostly 1960s through 80s on small lots, and the trees are the slash pines the developers left — fifty- to seventy-foot pines ten feet from the roof on a 75-foot lot — plus the royals along McGregor, the mahoganies and oaks of the older streets, and the Australian pines and mangroves of the shore. Ian's surge came through Iona, Island Park and the Punta Rassa end hard, and the salt and wind damage to the pines here was as bad as the Cape's.

The work is pine work on small lots — crane removals are routine because there's no drop zone — along with royal palm cleaning, mahogany and oak pruning, and the shore work: Australian pines along the bay, and mangroves referred. Unincorporated Lee County rules apply: no permit for a few trees on a built lot, a clearing permit at five acres, and tortoise and eagle checks on anything undeveloped.

Royal & sabal palm care

The McGregor and Summerlin royals cleaned every spring.

Older-street shade trees

Questions from San Carlos Park, Iona & McGregor homeowners

How do you take a 70-foot pine out from between two houses ten feet apart?

By crane, from the street, in sections lifted straight up and over. There's no safe drop zone on these lots and we won't pretend there is. Typically $2,500–$5,000.

Do I need a permit here?

San Carlos Park, Iona and the McGregor corridor are unincorporated Lee County: no permit for a few trees on a built residential lot, none for a documented hazard tree, a clearing permit at five acres. The City of Fort Myers line is close in places — we check the parcel.

My yard flooded in Ian and the trees have been dying since. Is it the salt?

Yes, for the pines and some palms and oaks. Salt in the root zone does the same slow damage as wind-rocking: decline over the following summers. We'll walk the lot and tell you which trees are finished and which are recovering.

Can you clean the royals on my street as a group?

Yes — neighbors scheduling together get the lift for a day at a lower per-palm rate.
